Dragon's Den - November 2017
Twelve small groups of Year 10 Business Studies entrepreneurs pitched their products to four Dragons, watched intently by the Year 9 Business Studies groups on 21st November. Business plans and ideas for new products, services and software were presented and scrutinised. Whilst some were high-risk, others were more secure, but all were pitched with formality and determination to the four judges during the event this morning in our auditorium. The groups had prepared their pitches for several lessons beforehand, having researched, costed, developed and rehearsed their presentations. All this was part of their Business Studies work, led by Mr Margilewski, who coordinated and led the event today.
The four dragon-like judges were from a broad commercial and educational field and each not only judged the groups but provided them invaluable feedback to help develop their presentation and business skills even further. Three dragons had taken the morning off work from their busy schedule to take part and support the event, and Mr Amos, one of our Headteachers, added the educational dimension to the questions, challenges and judging. One of the Dragons donated £100 worth of Amazon vouchers for the winning groups.
Given just seven minutes, each group presented their business plan, described details and answered challenging questions about marketing, sales, growth, investment and profit. The entrepreneurs tried to gain the support of at least one of the Dragons. They all succeeded in some ways; all gained invaluable experience, confidence and certificates. The leading few groups were awarded Amazon vouchers and the First Prize winners will also take part in a special TAG event later this term. The winning groups are:
- 1st Prize- Pro-Padz: Max W, Tyson B & Arjan S
- 2nd Prize- Tranquillitea: Lily Ryan & Lucy B
- 3rd Prize (joint) - SafeAway: Sean F; Hound in Hands: Austin R, Sayeed W & Faizan Q
